October Monthly Meeting with speaker Kathryn Goodwin Gant
October 26, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFREE
Kathryn Goodwin Gant’s Bio:
I have 20 years’ experience within sustainable horticulture, including community gardening, farming, advocacy and teaching. I champion soil health and farming in a manner that is healthy for people and the planet — whether in a backyard garden or on a commercial farm. Before joining OKC Beautiful, I managed a certified organic farm in Oklahoma City and developed the Employee Garden at Chesapeake Energy, which enabled employees and their families to grow their own organic food in a 2 acre company garden. I have taught Sustainable Horticulture at OSU-OKC and worked locally for TLC Garden Centers. I earned my B.A. in liberal arts at Furman University and a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at University of California, Santa Cruz. I have worked on rural and suburban family-owned farms as well as at community gardens in Atlanta, San Francisco, Oakland, and Sonoma County, California before settling in Oklahoma City over ten years ago.
Joining OKC Beautiful has allowed me to share my 20 years of sustainable farming and gardening experience with the most important people on the planet: kids. We have the potential to positively impact thousands of children and their families each year by enabling school children to get their hands dirty and learn science, math, reading and more through experiences in the outdoor classroom. Bringing garden love to children, homeless youth, and seniors is a joy for me, and I am honored to be able to do this work through the OKC Harvest program.
